Silver and Flatware/Estimating sale value of Silver Plate Set
I am in the process of dividing up the assets of my parents and an area I am in need of help with is my Mother's Silver Plate Service. It is William Rogers (International Silver) Royal Pageant Pattern # 1937 Service for 8. A setting includes Fork, Hollow Knife, Salad Fork, 2 Table Spoons, Long handle Iced Tea Spoon, Oval Soup Spoon, and Seafood Fork. Serving pieces include (4) 8.5" Serving spoons, a Medium flat Cold Meat Fork, a Large 9" serving spoon (casserole?)I believe a sugar spoon, a medium cake server, What I think is a butter knife, A knife shaped like a fish knife (only 6.5 inches long and single 6" oval spoon with a notch taken out of the right side of the bowl. There is a wooden box with a rather unattractive greenish paint over wood with the tarnish resistant label inside from International Silver. I am trying to place a value at sale so I can buy my brother's half of the service. Can you be of assistance
Silver plate flatware like this has a low market value in the range of fifty cents to one dollar for each of the place setting pieces and maybe a bit more for serving pieces. See the article in the list below that talks about the value of silver plate flatware.
However, if the set is in good condition, it has a higher value with respect to utility and sentimental value. If you tried to buy a set from a dealer, you would pay a lot more.
If I was in your situation and if I planned to keep the set, I would consider using 30% of the values found on this page: http://www.replacements.com/webquote/INSROP.htm#257692
. To me, that represents a compromise of the conflicting perspectives on valuation. Of course, that is purely my opinion.
If you would like to find buyers of silver, you’ll find ads from such businesses on my blog site: http://www.SilverChatter.com . Look for sellers as well because they have to buy their silver somewhere. You may have to reload the screen a few times to see all the ads.
