Silver and Flatware/Tudor Mint Julep Cups

Question
I have a set of Mint Julep cups marked "Made In Germany US Zone".  The sale receipt, dated 9-12-1954, says Tudor and the price is $48.50.  The set consist of 5 cups with one having a lid, I assume it's the cup the drinks where mixed in and then poured into the other 4. It comes with a leather case that snaps shut so you can take it with you,to the races, picnic etc. I understand that Tudor is another name or definition meaning the same as Silver Plate.  Is this correct?  Any idea what the value of something like this would be or where I could research more. I think it is cool to have the original receipt and everything is in excellent condition except the lid, it has some small scratches on it. Maybe caused by the leather rubbing against it while in the case.

Answer
Hi, Catherine.

I can't give you a definite answer because I just don't know. I do know that "Tudor" has been used as a brand by more than one silver company. Oneida is a good example. Their pieces were marked "Tudor plate". I have not fund that "Tudor" in an industry-wide definition for silver plate.

Here is a good list of German marks: http://www.925-1000.com/Fgerman_marks.html .  German silver plate items often have the number "90" or "100" on them.

Sorry I could not give you e batter answer.

Best wishes,

Jim
