Question
I have two candlesticks stamped on bottom:
Towle
Sterling
740
filled
reinforced
with rod

purchased at church thrigt shop. any value?

Answer
Hi, Barry.

These candlesticks have a thin sterling outer layer. Inside, you'll find a cement filler and a metal rod. The vast majority of the weight is taken up by the non-sterling components. Therefore, the value is probably not great. Such pairs like this often sell in the $30 to $100 range depending upon design and height. Here's an example of a sale: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Towle-sterling-silver-candle-sticks-/170985106268?pt=Ant .
