Question
I recently bought a silverplated bowl marked paul revere reproductions. My question is Why does it not say oneida or have more information on it? I saw several pictures online of bowls like mine (my bowl is 4 3/4 x 8 7/8) and they all had more information on the bowl underneath. some of the bowls said Oneidacraft silverplate, etc. does the lack of information on the bottom of my bowl mean it is a reproduction of a reproduction or did oneida just stop putting their name on the bowl? if they did, is this a clue to how old the bowl is?Also, my bowl has two stains in it that polish won't remove. I assume they are some kind of acid stain. how much does this lower the value and is there anything you could recommend that might take the stains out?
thank you.

Answer
Hi, Marietta.

I can't answer your questions fully but I can toss out some facts and thoughts.

Several companies have made Paul Revere reproductions including Gorham, Watson, Reed & Barton, etc. My problem is that I don't know how these were all marked. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the manufacturer's name or trademark would not be included.

The two stains you mentioned might be spots where the plating has worn off and the underlying metal is showing through. If it is a stain, Wenol Metal Polish or something like that might remove it. Several applications may be required if it's really bad. And there is no guarantee this will work. I don't like products like Tarn-X but they might help in this case.

Used silver plate Revere bowls generally don't have a high value even when in top condition. Do a search on eBay and check out the prices for examples. Look especially at "Sold" items.

Sorry I could not help more.

Best wishes,

Jim
