Silver and Flatware/sterling service piece - ID and type
I have a number of silver pieces that I am trying to sell. I just starting out and will admit to being very much a novice. One particular fork seems to defy identification. It was made by Bailey, Banks and Biddle Co. and despite numerous searches, I have never seen anything else like it. (See attached photo.) I had assumed it was a pasty fork because the tines are spread, rather than parallel, but I have found no other pastry form arrayed in this way. Whatever you can tell me about this piece will be huge. I have no idea what it is or how to price it. My thanks in advance. Also, can you suggest a good reference book/web site?
It appears that this piece was actually made by Durgin (now owned by Gorham) in the Madame Royale pattern. BB&B was the original retailer. I don't really know what it is but if it's in the 5-inch length range, it might be a lemon fork. If it's longer, might it be a chipped beef fork? These are just guesses.
Sorry I could not help more.
