Dear Jim,
My mother-in-law is moving and we found this set of Mauser silverware. I would very much appreciate some information about the value of this set as she does not want to keep it.

Thank you for any help you can provide,
Monica

Answer
Hello.

The key to value will depend upon whether the pieces are made of sterling or not. Look for the word, "Sterling", on the bottom or back. See the article in the list below that discusses sterling vs silver plate.

You can try selling these on eBay or Craigslist or you might contact a dealer about buying the pieces. Silver plate pieces will not bring a lot, most likely. Since sterling consists of at least 92.5% silver content, it is worth considerably more.

www.replacements.com and www.antiquecupboard.com both do business by email and may offer to buy what you have.

If you would like to receive an offer from me, send an email to GeorgiaSilver@bellsouth.net. I would only be interested in pieces clearly marked as "Sterling". The one exception is knives since marks on these are sometimes hard to determine. As long as they are the same pattern as sterling forks, spoons, etc., that will be acceptable. I'll need an inventory of pieces along with the lengths or heights of the pieces. You can use my offer as a baseline to compare against others.

Best wishes,

Jim
