Question
I HAVE A FLATWARE SET IN A WOODEN BOX I WAS WONDERING IF IT IS WORTH ANYTHING.  IT IS PROBABLY ABOUT 50 YEARS OLD OR MORE.  THE PATTERN FROM WHAT I CAN TELL ON THE FORK IS "COMMUNITY"

Answer
Hello.

Oneida had a line they called "Community" for several patterns made of silver plate or stainless steel. You might be able to find your pattern here: http://sterlingflatwarefashions.com/Msc/SterlSP.html . Once you find your pattern, I suggest searching for actual recent sales on eBay of the same pattern. This will give you a good estimate of value.

Although I don't know the pattern at this point, there is a good chance the value is low. Most silver plate and stainless steel sets sell for about a dollar per piece when sold by an individual. Serving pieces might bring a bit more.

Best wishes,

Jim
