I have a 46 piece serving of Art Deco, mother of pearl (or Bakelite?) flatware. (I'm missing 1 salad fork and 1 dinner). It originally belonged to my great aunt. I am guessing it was purchased (probably all at once) sometime between 1930-1940. It was her luncheon flatware. With the exception of the salad forks which are either sterling or silver plate, the pieces are all stamped stainless steel. The salad forks don't have a metal type stamp. All pieces are marked SHEFFIELD ENGLAND. The stainless pieces are also marked J. Sanderson & Son. Here is my question, the knives have an additional engraving of a signature - Carl Forslund. From my research, Carl Forslund was a furniture maker and/or artist. I can't find any explanation as to why my knives have his signature and can't find anything on the internet. I am thinking of selling the set as I have no use for it but I wanted to find an answer to my question first. I am attaching a photo. Thanks in advance! I hope to hear from you soon!

Answer
Hello.

I cannot add anything new regarding the signature. There have been times when companies have used names of artists/designers on sets like this but it's bee rare.

Generally speaking, there is not a great demand for sets like this. The artisy's name might add some value but I doubt it. You might check out actual sales of similar items on eBay.

Sorry I could not help.

Best wishes,

Jim
