Hello Jim,

I am trying to find help identifying the sterling silver flatware on the photos attached.  It's hard to read but it may say Pat. 1895.  If you are able to identify it, can you tell me the value of the pattern?  I have 60 pieces though not evenly distributed among the types of utensils.

Answer
Hello.

This looks like the Old Colonial pattern from Towle. Check out the pattern on this page to see what you think: http://sterlingflatwarefashions.com/Patterns/Towle5.html. You can see a reproduction of several pages form an old Towle catalog by clicking on the "Catalog" link on the page I referenced.

Without knowing the exact pieces and their sizes, my estimate of value is "ballpark". Based on sales recently on eBay, an individual selling a 60-piece set might get between $1,100 and $1,200. As an example, here's a recent sale of a much larger set: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Old-Colonial-98-p-SET-x12-SERVING-Spoon-Fork-Ladle-Serve . You can calculate the per-piece price of this larger set and apply that value to your set.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes,

Jim
