About Tricia
Expertise
I was a single parent to my child his entire life. I have experienced many ups and downs that comes everyday with being a single parent. I have learned a lot throughout these years about child support/courts, ways to cope with the daily stress, day care issues, work, ADD, relationships, teenagers, when to compromise and when to not, money issues, discipline issues, etc. I have done an excellent job raising my son who is now on his own and functioning well. I am currently an Executive of my company without any type of degree. My perseverance and strength has gotten me this far in life and work. I learned to understand what I need to focus on in life and what I can`t waste time on, learning to compromise most situations.

Question
what are the ups and downs of being a single parent?
how the child affected?

Answer
Hi Grace!

I think some of the ups would be that you make all the decisions the way you think is right without having to argue your point with the other partner.  Probably less stressful when you do not have to argue your point at all.  Another up is that you get to spend so much more time with your child and create a strong bond.

Some downs would be that it is very stressful physically, emotionally and financially.  You are on the go from morning to night every day.  Also if you want to talk over a problem with someone who loves your child as much as you do, there is no one to talk to.

It definitely is much easier having 2 parents raise a child if your two parents are good supportive loving parents.  Unfortunately this is not always the case so it is better to have one good parent than 2 bad ones.
