Question Good evening! I have some eczema on my face. The little patch of skin above my lip is ALWAYS irritated and itches like mad. The winter time makes it worse. I am not sure if this patch of skin is affected by my eczema, but my guess is yes. Anyway, I have tried just about everything on that area of skin..oatmeal lotions, RX steroid creams, etc. I am now having a problem with my lips staying so very dry that I have to use lip balm everyday, all day! Now however, whatever lip balm I use..it makes my lips burn and itch like crazy. I'm trying to find out if there is some kind of allergy I have to something in most of these lotions and lip balms or in the lotions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!
Answer Jennifer,
Eczema, also known as dermatitis is often worse in winter months. It can be allergy related but also may be simply hereditary, or an immune deficiency.
Common dietary allergens are milk, nuts (sometimes only certain nuts), sea food (sometimes only shell fish), wheat, eggs, soy, and sulphur.
If you haven't tried a tea tree and zinc lotion yet I would definitely start using one. I personally have eczema too and I'm allergic to a ton of things, but I use a tea tree and zinc lotion with no problems and it clears my eczema up in just a day or two when ever mine crops up.
My "bad spots" are my forehead, scalp, and middle of my chest. Although these are common areas symptoms are unique per individual.
I also use a tea tree and zinc hair gel to clear my scalp up. You should keep an eye out for what appears to be dandruff, as you may develop eczema on the scalp at some point.
Here is a link to the tea tree and zinc products I use, they are very affordable online.

If your eczema is allergy related what you can do short of seeing an allergy specialist is discontinue use of any of the allergy related food items I listed above. You may also want to check ingredients on any balms or lotion you have used which may contain fish, nut, or soy oils.
The tea tree lotion is not for internal consumption so use only on the perimeter of your lips and on the patch above your lips. Once or twice a day is sufficient until symptoms disappear and then at the earliest sign of a recurrence.
Best wishes,
Zac
