Expert: Andy Parkin - 12/15/2008

Question
I actually have about 10 questions for you. I am doing a report on skydiving and I need some answers.
1. how much does it cost?
2. have people ever decided they don't want to do it after they are already in the plane?
3. How long to you free fall for?
4. how long does it take to get to the ground?
5. what kind of clothes do you wear skydiving?
6. what kind of equipment do you use?
7. Does it have to be a certain kind of weather to skydive? If so, what?
8. How high up are you when you jump out of the plane?
9. Have people ever passed out when falling?
10. Do you have an instructor with you when falling?
If you could answer these questions by tomorrow that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Callie, I'm afraid that this email was only sent at 23.03 so for me to answer it before "tomorrow" isn't realistic. I am, however, now able to answer them for you....please see below:

1. Depends which type of jump this link on our site explains the costs for the the types of jumps/courses http://www.skydivezone.co.uk/tandemprices.htm
http://www.skydivezone.co.uk/affrapsprices.htm
2. This happens very rarely and only once to me. Normally people are fine.
3. With tandem anything from 30 seconds to a  minute depending on the exit altitude. Canopy must be open by 5000 feet.
4. Again, with tandem anything from 3 to 5 minutes.
5. Normal loose fitting clothing under the jumpsuit (bit like a posh boiler suit).
6. A parachute system has two canopies in it and usually an automatic activation device all contained in a pack called a  container.
7. We need clear enough sky to be able to see the ground, winds under 20 knots and for it not to be raining - not much to ask for !
8. Normal exit altitude varies from 10,000feet to 13,500 feet. There are the odd place that go up to 15,000.
9. Not that I am aware of.
10. Tandem students always have an instructor attached to them.

Hope this helps but check out www.skydivezone.co.uk if you need more info

Andy
