Sleep Disorders - I can't wake up

Expert: Karel sleis-burress - 3/12/2003

Question
I dont know if this is a category you cover, but I'm not sure who else to ask, or even if this is a real condition. My problem is simple: I can't wake up.  No alarm can wake me from sleep in the morning. My girlfriend calls me non-stop for hours at a time, and neither my cel phone nor my house phone will wake me.  People banging on my house door wont even wake me.  Everything is on its loudest setting, and still I dont wake up.  Its gotten to the point where my girlfriend has to drive to my house and wake me up in person.  Sometimes, even if someone tries to wake me up in person, I still wont even wake up.

The only thing that seems to work is if I go to sleep incredibly early. But I cant always do that, since I go to work full time and to school full time as well.  I still manage to get in about 6 hours or even 7 a night, but it doesnt seem to be enough. What can I do?

Please help!

Sincerely,
Fred

Answer
if you stayed asleep for weeks, there is a disorder called klein-levine syndrome, what i would do is go to a sleep center and get better evaluated, one thing you can do is to avoid any alcohol as it would further enhance your not awakening or any drugs as well, but going to a sleep center and get better evaluated.there may be a medication your taking thats doing it if you are on any. feel free to email again good luck, karelps. you can try turning the alarm to radio and wake up to the radio turn the volume full blown perhaps that may help and put the alarm in the room but not near the bed where you would have to literally get out of the bed to turn it off.
