Question
QUESTION: so, I need an english to slovak translation bad! I have been out on a couple dates with a beautiful woman from slovakia and she speaks great english, but I would love to ask her to be my girlfriend in slovak so please could you help me with this!!! haha, I just want to know how to say

Lucia, you mean so much to me. will you be my girlfriend?

haha, lame I know but I gotta do it

Thank you so much!

ANSWER: Hi Tyler,

great for you! Here is the translation:

"Lucia, velmi vela pre mna znamenas. Chces so mnou chodit?"

And a phonetical transcription; I am afraid it's not gonna be easy, but I hope it works:

"Loot-see-ya, vell-me vell-ah pre mnia zna-men-nash. Kh-tsesh so mnoh kho-dit?"

I'm sorry I can't transcribe it any better. I think if you try to just pronounce each syllable as you would naturally in English, it should sound about right. And probably funny, so don't try this in a very serious setting :-) (Not that I am trying to trick you; it means what you wanted, but I don't think you can make it sound very Slovak based on this poor transcription.)

- "kh" is the sound of the German or Russian "ch"
- don't make stops where you see dashes; they are there only to separate the syllables

I hope it works out!

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: ok, so everything went awesome and I'm thinking she said something good after I asked but she wouldn't tell me straight out and just told me to call her whe I figure it out so please help once again!!!! haha, this is what she said:

chcem baby

a aj ty pre mna vela znamenas

a nechcem ta vidiet smutneho a nestastneho

So, she said this to me then wrote it down on paper and told me it was homework and I'm dying to figure out what it means PLEASE HELP AGAIN! you are a saint! haha

Answer
Congratulation man! You're right, it's affirmative.

Here's the translation:

I do, baby. (literally, "I want, baby")
You also mean a lot to me.
And I don't want to see you sad and unhappy.

So congratulations again, and hope it's the beginning of something big. Don't forget to send me your wedding photos when you get there :-)

Sam
