Answer Hi Anshuman,
the good news is there is demand for software engineers in Prague. However,
there are two factors that may be acting against you now:
1) the financial crisis: Although the crisis did not affect the IT sector too
much, there are IT companies that have been cutting costs, and even letting
people go. Naturally, the demand for IT people has dropped somewhat.
2) language barrier: There are certainly companies which will hire you even if
you don't speak Czech. However, you must understand that most companies will
require the language, so your choice of employment will be quite limited.
I think the best way to start is to come to Prague and give it a try. I
understand it's hard: you will have to quit your old job, buy an expensive air
ticket (and decide one way vs. return), finance your stay in Prague, and hope
that you can find a job soon after getting there. A lot of paperwork (work/stay
permit) will probably be involved etc. Nevertheless, I think there is no better
way of doing this. Hardly anyone will hire you without seeing you in person.
Before you plunge into all of this risky stuff, you may do something from home:
find some Prague companies with openings, send them your CV, and see what their
reaction is. That should be a very good indicator whether it's worth coming or
not. Some of them will turn you down simply because you don't speak Czech. If
some of them invite you for an interview, it's a good sign already. You will
explain to them that you're still not in Prague, and start arranging things to
get here.
