-----Question-----
Hi there Sam, I am cabin crew and wondered if you could help me, I feel quite ignorant when we have Slovak speaking passengers onboard, and wondered if you could help me translate some airline lingo questions into Slovakian for me as I will get them typed up and hopefully learn them then our airline can provide a better service to these passengers and really welcome them onboard. Thanks
-----Answer-----
Hi Tracey,

could you please send me the list of questions you have in mind?

Thanks,
Sam

Answer
Hi Tracey,

I am terribly sorry about the delay; I was busy when I got your follow-up and then I completely forgot about your question after it had drifted down in my Inbox. I will try to answer it as well as I can now.

As Slovak pronunciation is substantially different from English, I will write both the written form and then try to approximate the sound.

1 Please fasten your seatbelt
Priputajte sa, prosim.
Pri-poo-thai-teh sah, prossim.

2 Is baby under 2 years old?
Malo to dieta uz dva roky? (this is the opposite: has it been two yet?)
Mallo toe di-etta uzh dva rocky? (zh is the "z" sound in measure, seizure etc.)

3 Here is an infant seatbelt have you used one before?
Tu je pas pre kojencov; viete, ako sa pouziva?
To ye pass pre co-yen-tsoe; vi-ette, acko sa po-uzh-ee-vah?

4 Please put all bags and coats underneath the seat infront of you
Prosim, ulozte si batozinu pod sedadlo pred vami.
Prossim, oo-lozh-teh si battozheenu pod seddadlo pred vamee.

5 Please fold away the tray table
Prosim, vyklopte si stolik.
Prossim, vicklopteh si stollick.

6 I need to move you to another row of seats
Musim vas presunut do ineho radu.
Mussim vas pre-soo-noot do inneho raddu.

Please don't get scared. There are many doubled consonants. You do not need to stress this in any way - I only spelled them that way to make it clearer how the vowels should be pronounced (e.g. imagine how you would pronounce the "a" in "mallo" versus in "malo"). Again, whenever hyphens are used, do not make any pauses - I merely tried to separate the syllables so that they are readable at all.

Which airline do you work for then? It sounds really interesting!

Hope this helps. Should you need any more help, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Bye,
Sam
