Question
My sister in law is from Slovakia.  She is due to give birth to her first in October.  We are throwing a shower, but would like to know of any tradition for a new baby or any customs for a baby shower?  Thank you

Answer
Hello Lori,

first of all - sorry for replying this late, I have been camping for the last ten days and forgot to switch on the on-holiday status.

As for the baby shower - I have never heard of one before, so I don't think I can help you much. I know what you mean - I know what a bridal shower for example would be - but I really don't think anyone does baby showers around here. Not that I know, anyway. (But of course I may be wrong, being a man, you see... Maybe I just haven't noticed :-)

It is certainly very common in the Catholic families that the baby gets baptised and I imagine there may be some traditions related to the event of baptism. I can find out if that's of any value to you. Please let me know...

I am also thinking about what to do for my sister who is expecting her first, but I seriously don't think there are any traditions related to this.

Please let me know if I can be of any more help to you.

Hope both the baby and the mother are fine...
