Answer Ms. Susan, two different engine manufactures made engines for this mower. One is Briggs & Stratton, the other is Tecumseh. If it is the Briggs 3.5hp, the spark plug is a Champion brand # J19LM. If it is the Tecumseh 3.5hp the Champion # is J8C......The top of the engine should have the brand name on it.......Tom
