Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.) - JohnDeere 160

Expert: Robert Dunn - 10/30/2009

Question
Hi,
Have a JohnDeere 160, original engine. It ran fine this summer, tried to start it for first time in about a month, but it will not start. Engine turnsover fine. I took out spark plug (which was new this summer) seems to be getting gas. How can I trouble shoot what the problem might be?
Thanks,
Randy

Answer
Hi Randy
With the spark plug out, place it on the engine and turn the engine over and see if you have spark. If not, check the safety switches for malfunction. You might also check the magneto arms and flywheel magnet for rust and/or trash buildup which could cause a "no spark" condition. Hope this helps.
