Question
QUESTION: ive got a mtd/yardman with a honda motor. the number on the motor is   1p70fua0608072a0082.  it wont start, i need to know what the compression is supposed to be (right now its 30-40).  also what engine model number is this????g____

ANSWER: Hi Bill

The compression is correct for your engine.  Your engine is equipped with a mechanical compression release when starting.  The compression needs to be between 25 and 40psi.

You do not have a Honda Engine on your mower, you have a Honda Copy engine. This engine was manufactured by either Loncin or Zonshen from China, BOTH are very VERY good engine companies in China.

You have a 70mm bore if you are in to the technical stuff.

The most common problem for the engine not to run is lack of spark or gummed up carb, so test your ignition system and fuel system and see if you can isolate the problem.

Remove the air cleaner, spray some carb cleaner into the carb, try to start the engine-If it starts and runs, but quits you have a fuel delivery problem.  It may be as simple as old fuel or a gummed up carb.  Make sure you can find parts before disassembling the carb.  Its often cheaper to just replace the carb.

If you have no spark, replace the plug, and if still no spark you need to replace the ignition module.

Hope this helps

QUESTION: Thanks Dave.  I have cleaned, and soaked the carb overnight and had to replace the float as it was "takin on gas".  I have spark although not a vibrant blue like Im used to, but having trouble with a good ground to test..(I cleaned the coil pickups, the fly wheel magnets, and checked the key for shear)  The ignition module, is part of the coil on this? If not where is it?  Also, how do I look up parts for this I cant find this engine number anywhere is there a comparable Honda Engine that I can use (to get the float I used a Honda number.)

Answer
Bill

If you go to any MTD dealer they can get your parts for this mower.  As long as you have spark its okay. It should be fine.  There is no honda Copy of this engine that i know of.

You can locate your a dealer by going to www,mtdproducts.com
