About John
Expertise
I specialize in two cycle questions and repair, specifically chainsaws. But have worked on Outdoor Power Equipment for 18 years. So lawn mower/small engines are also what I work on everyday. Being in KY, snowblowers are very rare, so their drive systems I am not familiar with. Electrical work on Generators is something I do not get into either, as I have no training in that area. Also, I have little experience with boat motors, mini bikes, 4 wheelers, motorcycles, etc.

Experience
I have worked in the Outdoor Equipment Industry since 1990, and have been active giving online help to do-it-yourself types since 2000, and also am skilled in parts lookup help as well. When working at larger dealerships, I have always filled the "Two Cycle Man" position, as it is an area that can be tricky to diagnose and repair.

Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.) - John Deere L120 Lawn tractor

Expert: John - 6/26/2009

Question
Had problems suddenly with starting my John Deere L120.  Verified that it wasn't battery or fuses or spark plugs and had small engine tech come out and look at today.  He replaced the grounding wire to the solonoid that he said was bad.  tractor now starts fine, but after a few minutes of mowing engine began to sputter then stall.  Now the engine starts fine, but as soon as I let out the clutch the engine stalls -tractor will not go anywhere.  Also, when I engage the PTO with the clutch pushed in, blades begin to engage but engine immediately stalls.  Any advice?  Spent $120 with service call and labor today to replace wire but still can't use the mower.

Answer
It sounds like you have multiple problems, one of which is a bad or disconnected seat switch, also may have a charging problem or fuel
solenoid, and maybe a valve adjust problem.

But I would first call the small engine service and let them
know that you are not happy, REALLY not happy.
