Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.) - Honda /GCV160 GOVERNOR

Expert: John C. Bridgers Sr. - 6/30/2007

Question
The engine revs to max when started. The throttle lever moves the butterfly valve but it does not change the rpm. I can manually move the governor likage to get it to throttle down, but can' get it to do it on its own correctly.

MOWER
model PR55R621CA

THANKS,

Answer
Hello Gary:

You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Then Select Engine. Then Scoll Down to your Engine Model and Select it. The Select the Oil Pan File. Breakdown Box # 9 Shows the Governor Components. From your Description, it Sounds like the Internal Governor has Came Apart or the Governor Arm Has Slipped on the Governor Shaft. Has the Bolt that Hold the Governor Arm to the Shaft Been Loosened? Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck

Respectfully

John
