Hope you are well. You have been a great help to me in the past and am seeking your expertise once again. I have a ryobi 790r trimmer that has worked very well for a number of years. It worked great 2 weeks ago but I could not get it to start today. It has fresh fuel mix and I have replaced the spark plug. If I put a brief spray of starting fluid in the carb it will start briefly and die. Any advice you could give would be great. Thanks, Dan
Answer Hello Dan:
1st - Remove the Muffler and Inspect the Exhaust Port for Carbon Blocking the Exhaust Port. Check the Muffler and Spark Arrestor Screen (in the muffler) for Blockage Also. If that Does Nor Correct the Problem or these are Not Blocked, then 2nd - Remove, Disassemble and Soak the Carburetor Overnight in Carburetor Cleaner (I Use Gunk). I have Found that Most People can Use a Breakdown/IPL and Disassemble the Carburetor Enough for Proper Cleaning. You Only have to Remove the Bowl, Float Pin, Float and Needle Valve and Any Adjustment Screws that Go Into the Carburetor Body. The Welch Plugs Do Not have to be Removed. Then Soak the Carburetor Body and Parts in a 1 Gallon Can of Gunk Carburetor Cleaner Overnight. The Can has a Parts Tray Inside it for the Small Parts. Once the Carburetor and Parts are in the Cleaner, you can Replace the Lid for Safety and to Prevent Accidential Spillage. Then Blow Out the Passages with Compressed Air. Install New Parts if Required. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Carburetor or the Carburetor OEM (Walbro, Nikki, ect), Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you.
