Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.) - wurray riding mower will not start by switch

Expert: John C. Bridgers Sr. - 9/10/2006

Question
Murray 14hp Twin cyl electric start.  The mower will not start with the ignition switch...it can be started by jumping the starter solenoid, once started, it cannot be turned off by the ignition switch. The headlights do come on by the switch..Using a test light I have no power comming to the ignition switch on any of the six wires on the ignition switch....five of the wires are on a cluster, one wire is seperate.  briggs engine model is,  400707.

Answer
 Hello Mike:

Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Mower, Please. With these Numbers I can Locate a Breakdown of the Mower and Wiring and Better Assist you. However, Check the Fuse(if your model has one). If the Engine Doesnt Shutoff with the Switch, then the Switch is Bad. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. I enjoy knowing the Outcome. Thanks.

 Good Luck

 Respectfully

 John
