Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.) - xmsn won't shift

Expert: John C. Bridgers Sr. - 7/5/2007

Question
I have a Sears T-1000 riding lawn mower.  The model number is (917 272670) It is almost impossible to shift gears.  When I depress the clutch/brake pedal, the lawnmower doesn't stop.  It just keeps going like it is in neutral.  Depressing the pedal doesn't make it any easier to shift either.  Could the clutch be out of adjustment, and if so, how do I adjust?

Answer
Hello Richard:

I Do Not Recall Any Adjustments on the Clutch Link. The Online Site I Use for Reference is Down for Upgrades, lol. Remove the Mower Deck so you have Easy Access to the Under Side of the Mower. Go to this Site Addy, http://www3.sears.com/ and Enter the Model Numbers in the Upper Left Search Box and Click Go. Then Visually Verify the Equipment and CLick Continue. From this Page you can View Diagrams or Parts Lists for you Equipment. Select the Diagram of the Ground Drive. Check the Part (Bell Crank #48 and Ensure it is Moving Freely But Not Worn Out. You can Also see the Clutch Rod and Adjuster if Any. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.

Good Luck
