is it necessary to replace the belt when it goes out of adjustment/if not how do you adjust

Answer
Hi Fred,

I'm not sure if there is an adjustment for the belt.  There could be an idler pulley that takes up the slack.  Usually they are spring loaded.  Your model might have a large split pulley that needs to move in and out on a shaft, which can get dry and sticky.  Remove the cover over the center of the frame to inspect that.  Then, inspect the belt.  If it is old and cracked, replace it and that may solve the problem.  The pedal linkage may have loosened.  Inspect that also.

Let me know how you make out,
Michael
