Subject: royal rochester percolator

Question
I recently purchases a 1940's Royal Rochester percolatr.  It heats up fine, my question is how long do I let it perk?  Apparently there is no automatic turn off on these vintage percolators, correct?

Answer
You will have to determine the correct time.  It all depends on how much coffee and how strong you like it to be.  Normally it takes about one teaspoon per cup but the longer it perks the stronger it will be.  Try a few pots and time each one.  You should be able to adjust the time with in a few pots. A thermostat is one thing that the new units have that the old ones did not.
