Small Household Appliances - hampton bay ceiling fan

Expert: Wayne Kiefer - 11/6/2009

Question
I have a Hampton Bay ceiling fan with four lights on it. It as a remote control as well. Within 2 days, 3 of the lights went out. I assumed it was a coincidence and replaced all three bulbs with brand new ones. One light flickered one time, then nothing. The other two never showed any sign of life at all. The fourth light still works fine, the fan is fine and the remote is fine. Any suggestions? I don't know a model # or anything, just that it is Hampton Bay.

Answer
It was probably made in China and has very cheaply made sockets.  These sockets cause a lot of problems in light fixtures.  Then on top of that, the bulbs are also probably made in China and made very cheaply and do not last very long either.  You may have to replace the sockets to get it to work but first check all of the wire nut connections.  Some times wire nuts can come loose and wires will pop out.  Be sure that the new bulbs are screwed in tightly as this can cause a problem as well.  I hope this will help.
