AboutJason Musgrove Expertise I`ve been a fan of The Smashing Pumpkins since 1993, and I have all the albums and U.S. CD singles. I can answer just about any question concerning the band`s beginning, how they picked their name, bios of the members, lyrics, discography, soundtracks, some personal info, and other news. I cannot answer questions about their tours.
Question Hey thanks for the quick reply! Another thing, I was wondering if Billy Corgan was ever into drugs like most of the 90's rockers. Ive heard that he was anti-drug (even drinking), but other sites have said during his depression and writers block, he was taking many drugs. Did Billy ever take drugs? If yes, which ones? Of no, is there a reason why not? Any help would be great!
Answer A great question!
While there are many rumors surrounding Billy's drug use, they are just rumors, so whether theres any truth in them is hard to say. But, Ill give you what Ive heard, and what I honestly feel was the case.
One would look back at the history of the Smashing Pumpkins and would easy see Billy's response to D'arcy's drug use, and further back, to Jimmy's drug use. His policy has always seemed to be "Do what you want, so long as it doesnt impact your work in the band". He knew of Jimmy's and D'arcy's usage, yet continued to work with them, (whether Billy proactively discouraged the use or just didnt care, we'll never know) and their departures came about as a result of the negative impact these two had on the band at the time.
From this, Im guessing that Billy is not 100% against drugs. But the question we want to know is whether Billy actually used himself.
Billy has admitted to taking LSD during the Gish years. Heres a quote about shooting the video for 'Siva':
"I was taking all this LSD and I got all these LSD-type shots in it. But it was that video that got us the Chili Peppers tour. Anthony Kiedis told us he saw us on TV and was like, 'We'll have this band open.'"
This is as much as I could find on his usage. Whether he used anything else, or how long he has used for has not been revealed.
