AboutJason Musgrove Expertise I`ve been a fan of The Smashing Pumpkins since 1993, and I have all the albums and U.S. CD singles. I can answer just about any question concerning the band`s beginning, how they picked their name, bios of the members, lyrics, discography, soundtracks, some personal info, and other news. I cannot answer questions about their tours.
Answer The origin of the name isn't actually very exciting, but according to Billy during a radio show done during the Resume the Pose tour, when he was younger, one Halloween he had heard a friend say that they were going out and would be 'smashing pumpkins'. Billy thought that this would be a cool name for a band and even told others that he had a band named Smashing Pumpkins long before he was in one. Once he started his own band, "Smashing Pumpkins" was what he named it. But Billy did not want the name to keep its Halloween meaning, and once he discovered fans were taking it that way, he changed the name to "The Smashing Pumpkins" to ensure 'Smashing' would be read like the British adjective. And thats all there is to it!
