Question
What is the SP song Tristessa about? Does it have anything to do with the Jack Kerouac book Tristessa? Would love to know-

-Jacquie

Answer
Hi Jacquie,

Billy Corgan has never really shared what his songs were about (and frankly I'm not sure they're ever about anything specific), so I can't provide much of an answer to your question. However, here are the lyrics. Perhaps there are some references to Kerouac's writing.

Pledged your faith
my heart embraced
struggle to renew

Blurry mind
so hypnotized
fast enough who

Wonder where you are
Tristessa

Soul takes soul
as I take eye
I will wait for you

What you believe
you'll wish to receive
I won't believe in you

Hang on to your life
Tristessa

I love you true
Surely I do
I love you true
Surely I do
Surely I do
Surely I do (no)

Do you ever wake up and find yourself alone?
Do you ever wake up far from home?
What you believe
you'll wish to receive
I won't believe in you
Tristessa
Tristessa
Tristessa

Little details and things that may be totally insignificant for some people, but they mean a lot to me. for example: Spaceboy was written about/for Billy's younger brother, Jesse, who has a rare genetic disorder. Thats rather common SP knowledge, but it's an example. Also, I know most lyrics off by heart to most SP songs, and stuff like that. Ask me pretty much anything about SP. I will most likely have the answer!
