Question
i saw a snake in my yard about 10-12 foot long maybe longer . it was a shinny cigar brown with big rectangles or sqaures on its back not diamond shape . the colors did not mix the diameter was  atleast 10 inches .

Answer
OK, well I'll give it a shot, your location would help.  I believe what you saw was a burmese python.  They are that color and one of the few snakes that could actually get that big.  That are not venomous, but would be dangerous to your pets.  I'm assuming you live in the US which means you saw someone's escaped pet.  If it were me I would happily just go outside and pick it up (they are one of my favorites and not usually agressive) but I wouldn't recommend that if you are not familiar with snakes.  Call animal control if you see it again.
