About Arcticatman
Expertise
I can answer most questions concerning snowmobile repair, including vintage and newer carbureted sleds.

Experience
I recently owned a 1978 Arctic Cat Lynx that I repainted and restored, a 1973 Ski Doo Olympique 440, a 1986 Arctic Cat El Tigre 6000, a 1990 Ski-Doo Formula Mach 1 and a 1973 Yamaha SL338C. I currently own a 1990 Arctic Cat Jag AFS Deluxe 440. I have rebuilt the carbs and fuel pumps, replaced tracks, slides, suspension, repaired chain cases, general body work, fixed the electrical on the sleds, and do just about anything possible with a sled. I used to work at a professional auto shop. I have accses to manuals and other helpful information, including good places for cheap parts. I am also a state park certified snowmobile operator

Question
I broke the crank in my 95 EFI 580 mtn cat. Will the crank out of 93 ext 550, will it interchange? What are the difference in the motors[stator, rods cylinders,etc.].

Answer
Hello Jeff,

Unfortunately, I don't believe that they would interchange, although very similar. The rods are different sizes and I think it would be less than successful to use the 550's crank. Of course, a new crank runs around 1500, so this is somewhat of a predicament. I did locate a crank on Al's Snowmobile here, http://www.alssnowmobile.com/PRODUCTPARTS.ASPX?pn_deptid=247  .  It is a crank out of a 1995 ZR580, and is the OEM part # to yours. I also found this crank that is interchangeable with yours on Ebay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4535569394&ca...  .  I have heard of repairing broken cranks, but I can't recommend it. Sorry for the misfortune. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the Cat! --Arcticatman
