AboutStuart Young Expertise I can answer questions to do with all aspects of English football, Spanish football and International football. My strongest area in football is current news. I also have a great knowledge of tactics and strategies.
Experience I have played football from a very early age. School teams, youth club level progressing to semi-professional level and playing at county level.
What is the best strategy to defend against a team that has better basic skills than you do and plays the long ball or sends the ball outside for a cross that lands middle to far post? (The coach of this team played in England in the late 70's and this is how he is coaching his team to play).
Thanks for your time and help!
Answer Hi there,
Sorry for the delay in replying to your question. From my experiences - the best way to defend against a team that you have descirbed is to press them in key areas. Don't allow teams/players room and time on the ball because they will hurt you in dangerous areas.
Opposition wide players should be closed down as soon as possible to restrict any balls/crosses being delivered into the penalty areas.
If the side players are very good on the ball and they are able to create space for their deliveries then I would suggest doubling up on the opposition players.
