Subject: 60th wedding anniversary announcement
Question My husband's parents are celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary and we would like to put an announcement in the local newspaper. I have read some to get an idea of the wording and they all seem to mention their children. For example, "the couple have three children, five grandchilren and two great-grandchildren". How would you write it if one adult child is deceased? (10 years ago) Two are still living. Also, do you mention "step-grandchildren"? I have three grown children from a previous marriage.
Answer Dear Maryann,
Thomas and Irene Doe will be celebrating their 60th wedding
anniversary with a private family dinner. Mr Doe married the former
Irene Dunn at The Little Stone Chapel in Sevier,Maryland on June
12th,1948.
(Put in some biographical information if you wish about who is
retired from where,what clubs,etc..)
They are the parents of Jim (Maryann)Doe,Lisa(Fred)Halberstam
and the late Judy Doe. They have five grandchildren, three step
grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Now! The "step grandchildren" is something you may or may not
want to put in. If these kids are close to the couple, yes,it is
appropriate to include them. If they were already grown and gone
by the time you married into the family,it will see sort of silly.
Only you and your husband can decide if they should be included or
if it would just confuse things.
Best regards,
