Expert: Cynthia Lett Date: 7/22/2008 Subject: gift card for a new born
Question What is the proper saying for a card on a new born's present?
Answer Dear Melinda:
What you write on the card for a newborn's present is directed towards the parents, not the newborn. You could write, "We are delighted by the arrival of (baby name).", "We are so happy to welcome (baby name) into our family.", "We are celebrating with you. What a wonderful gift to our lives.", "Congratulations on the arrival of (baby name).", "We are so blessed to have you as our friends. We are looking forward to getting to know (baby name) and watching (him/her) grow."
As you can see, what you write should be short and from the heart.
