Social Etiquette and Good Manners - College Graduation Announcements

Expert: Cynthia Lett - 10/23/2009

Question
I would like know when is it proper for sending College Graduation announcements.  My daughter will be graduating two years of college with her AA in December 2009 however, she will be continuing her education.  Do we make the announcement now or do we wait until she has completed her 4 years of college.  Note: she just graduated High School 18 months ago and at the rate she is going she will complete the remainder of her college in May of 2011 with a 4 year degree.  I do not want my family and friends to feel bombarded by announcements every 18 months.

Answer
Dear September:
Since your daughter will be continuing her college education, it would be proper to inform your friends and relatives that she has completed her AA degree and is looking forward to finishing her Bachelor's degree in a letter or conversation.  A formal announcement should be made when she finishes her undergraduate education.

Best of luck to your daughter.
