Social Etiquette and Good Manners - Sending Invite to Someone Who Had Death in Family

Expert: Amanda Gamble - 10/27/2009

Question
We are christening our daughter and would like to invite a close family whose daughter sadly passed away near the time our daughter was born. Is it in bad taste to send them an invitation or should I attach a note with the invitation explaining that we understand if they cannot attend?

Answer
Dear Nania,
Life goes on and inviting this family to the Christening is appropriate. Do include
a note expressing again how sorry you are for their loss and letting them know that while
it would mean a great deal to you if they could attend you will certainly understand if
they do not.

 Best regards,
