Social Etiquette and Good Manners - surprise birthday party

Expert: Amanda Gamble - 10/28/2009

Question
my mom is giving my dad a 60th surprise birthday party and was wonder was it ok to register for gifts.

Answer
Dear Ms. Jenkins,
No,it is not appropriate to register for gifts for a birthday. People are to be invited
to a birthday merely for the pleasure of havign them there to help celebrate a happy milestone.
If they bring presents,it should be an unexpected surprise.

Wishing your Dad a happy and healthy year ahead,
Amanda Gamble
