Question I am not overweight and do not need this to hold up my pants, but I like the look of wearing a belt even when I wear suspenders...especially when the pants have belt loops. I just feel it completes the look...So, is this acceptable or am I way out there? I have been told at work that this is a stupid thing to do.
your thoughts please,
Steve
Answer Dear Steve,
I am sorry that I didn't address the question head on for you. I will do so now. This is
not an etiquette question as there is nothing inappropriate about wearing both suspenders and
a belt. Is it common? No. But unlike ignoring the rule "No woman other than the bride may wear
white to a wedding." you are unlikely to step on anyone's toes or cause a scandal by wearing
the combination of a belt and suspenders.
As far as "acceptable" goes.please remember that at one time it was unacceptable for women to
wear pants anywhere. Then it became okay for them to be worn at home but not 'out of the house'
then it became okay to wear pants to the supermarket, etc. I know you can see where I am going with this.
So the belt and suspenders may cause some to question you, pioneers of fashion always are
at odds with general trends. So you have to ask yourself what it's worth to you to live and
dress as you see fit. Hence my advice via quotes that you do as YOU please.

Dear Steve,
I shall let greater minds than mine answer for me.
In difficult times fashion is always outrageous.
--Elsa Schiaparelli
Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are,
what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.
--Gianni Versace
‘Tis hell to a man of spirit to be contradicted by his tailor.
