Social Etiquette and Good Manners - graduation ceremony

Expert: Amanda Gamble - 6/19/2009

Question
Is there a specific order for the entrances of the participants for the "march" during a high school graduation ceremony?  Is it expected or proper that the adults, (ie teachers, principals, board members, etc,) would enter in first, or is it up to those planning the ceremony to decide?

Answer
Dear Robin,
While it is traditional for the adults to enter first,it is
not inappropriate to make up your own customs for any ceremony.
Every ritual has had to be made up from whole cloth at some point
in history.

Get with your planners and see what makes sense to you from a
logistical as well as emotional standpoint. Will the graduates have
to step over the faculty to get to their seats or vice versa? etc.,

                                            Best regards,
                                              Amanda Gamble
