Social Etiquette and Good Manners - 1st Birthday Gift question

Expert: Amanda Gamble - 7/3/2009

Question
Is there any polite way to ask for a contribution to FLORIDA PREPAID COLLEGE FUND in lue of toys and clothes on invite??

Answer
Dear Tiffany,
Gifts of any kind should never be mentioned in an invitation. No
one should be made to feel as if they must 'pay for the privilege' of
being invited as a guest.

Now,if anyone asks you what you would like for the baby's birthday,
you may make the suggestion.

You are always free to return gifts for the cash value (after the
thank you note) and put that money into the college account if you
wish.
        Best regards,
            Amanda Gamble
