Social Etiquette and Good Manners - HOUSEWARMING PARTY

Expert: Jay Remer - 7/10/2009

Question
i WOULD LIKE TO HOST A HOUSEWARMING FOR MY DAUGHTER WHO IS PURCHASING HER FIRST HOME AT 26 YEARS OLD.  I WOULD PREFER MONETARY GIFTS SO SHE CAN PURCHASE HER OWN ITEMS. HOW WOULD I WORD THIS ON AN INVITATION?  THANK YOU

Answer
Dear Evette,
Thanks for asking this good question. As I have said before, the mention of gifts on an invitation is verboten. The only way to handle this is to get a couple of your pals to spread the word. Perhaps some time actually practicing gratitude would also help. I hope this helps. Jay
