Social Etiquette and Good Manners/recital fee

Question
Is it customary to be charged a fee to attend a dance recital? I was invited to one and told I would have to pay $5 at the door.

Answer
Dear Phyllis,
I do apologize for not answering you sooner. There is nothing wrong with charging a fee for a recital of any kind. Often there are expenses associated with renting a hall, catering, etc. Have you ever gotten into Carnegie Hall for free to a recital? I hope this helps.
