Question
Can you please advise the proper way to title a former First Lady in the inside address of a letter. Do I type Former First Lady or First Lady?   I am aware of the proper use of Dear Mrs. _____:  Thank you.

Answer
Paulette:
She is to be addressed as a private citizen.
So, for example, most formally, Nancy Reagan would have been addressed on an envelope as:
         Mrs. Ronald Reagan
         (Address)

And the salutation would have been:
         Dear Mrs. Reagan
