Social Etiquette and Good Manners/Bridal Shower

Question
My daughter and her finance in the Navy were recently married in a simple ceremony for the immediate family only due to his orders to report to Japan. This was unexpected. We would like to hold a personal shower for her before she leaves but really she cannot take much with her they will have no home for a while. Someone suggested guests be asked to share recipes and then make it a Cash Shower? It sounded really tacky, but money for needed items once she gets there would be a God send...can you help us with this?

Answer
Dear Mrs. Drager,
No,you cannot make it a "cash shower". If you want to
spread the word quietly that nothing much can be taken
over to Japan that might do the trick. I would go ahead
and ask for the recipes though!
