Social Etiquette and Good Manners - Where to Kiss

Expert: Amanda Gamble - 10/7/2004

Question
Hi Amanda,

I do some volunteer work with a lady every week.  When we greet each other we first kissed each other on the cheeks.  However, we are getting emotionally closer and she may have aimed a greeting kiss on my lips before, which I averted.  Now our greeting kisses are at the edge of the lips.  We're just very close friends, nothing intimate yet.  Is it alright to kiss her on the lips as a greeting even though she's not a lover or anything of that sort, just a very dear female friend. I think she's single. I live in Australia.  She's from Ireland, I'm from Asia. I've never seen friends kiss on the lips as a greeting. Many thanks.

Regards,
Usuff
(I'm a male)

Answer
Dear Usuff,
What country are you from, where is she from and
where are you now?  I ask because as you say,the
social etiquete of kissing hello differs from place
to place.
Please advise and I will answer.
                                  Best regards,
                                         Amanda Gamble
