Social Etiquette and Good Manners/reply to wedding invite

Question
I was invited to a black tie wedding and the reply card is blank except for in small print at the bottom it says something like "the courtsey of your reply is due before August 9th" I am wondering what I write on the card? There is a number on the back.

Thank you

Answer
Dear Jennifer,
Something to the effect of "Jennifer and Mark Smith
regretfully decline due to a previous committment"
OR "Gladly accept" if that's the case.  If you know the
couple VERY well,a short note is fun. Opening those things
is mind numbing at times! I.E. "Oh yay,the Dorsetts are coming, and they've added an out of town visitor who, they feel we should know, is lactose intolerant. SWELL."  But a short personal note can cheer up the receipiant and remind them that this is supposed to be FUN.
