Question i seen from a different question maria asked. but i needed to ask you, do i need to get a specific degree to be in a specific area of social working?
Answer Hello Richard:
In general you need a BSW or MSW. Within the degree program there are usually different tracks. For example with my MSW you could take the clinical track, administrative track or research track. You can also decide which school you wish to attend based on their offerings.
But there is just one BSW or MSW program.
I find that the best thing to do is take your electives and your field placement in the setting of your interest. For example, if you want to work with children, be sure and take more child development, family systems classes and be sure and ask for a field placement in an agency where they serve children and families.
This is from experience in the US, by the way.
I hope that answers your question.
Best,
Liz http://socialworkworld.org
