I can answer all questions about book rules and "case book" rules governing the playing of ASA softball. Have a REAL situation that happened and are not sure the proper rule was applied, ask me.

Experience
I am a registered ASA umpire, a MASA "At-Large" umpire since 1996 and a retired District Umpire-In-Chief. I have very extensive experience in MASA State Championship and ASA national qualifying tournament play, and continue to be a Michigan State Tournament Umpire-In-Chief at various levels of play. Question
In girls softball 15 and under. The runner going to first turns inward towards second. The first baseman tags her. The runner is out right.

Answer
Hi Ronny,

A b-r overrunning 1st may legally turn either to their left or their right.  If any attempt is made to advance to 2nd, they are liable for an appeal out if tagged.

The simple fact that they turned left after overrunning 1st means nothing.

Mark
